Tips & Advice
Thinking about purchasing a boat? In addition to size and budget, determine which type of boat trailer is right for you. Midwest Traction has a list of considerations to help you decide on your boat trailer.
Load Capacity
The manufacturer will probably list the weight of your boat but account for actual weight when the boat is fully loaded with fuel, water, batteries, and the like. This will greatly change your needs.
Length
As a general rule, your trailer should be about 2 feet longer than your boat. Don't include swim platforms in your calculation, but do account for the bow pulpit if appropriate.
Ease of Loading/Unloading
Rollers make loading and unloading more simple. Check your warranty, first, as rollers can put dimples in the hull, which voids your manufacturer coverage. As an alternative, trailer bunks avoid dimpling while providing more hull support. Many offer a combination of bunks and rollers.
