What Causes Cracked Trailer Tires?

If you have been using the same set of trailer tires for 3 or more years, they're likely to show wear. Cracks form in the tread or sidewall, which can be quite dangerous. What causes cracks in your tires?

Infrequent Use

Trailer tires that remained parked for long periods, especially when exposed to the elements, are susceptible to dry rot.

Rubber Breakdown

When your tires come in contact with chemicals, rubber starts to wear. Chemicals are put out on the roads during colder months or spilled. Normal wear and tear from contact with asphalt, gravel or ice contribute to rubber breakdown.

Evaluate your trailer tires regularly and educate yourself on proper tire care. If you're in need of new tires, check out our online store.
